Sunday, September 18, 2011, marked the close of the 20th annual Kentucky Bourbon Festival. The 9th annual Mixed Drink Challenge, sponsored by the Nelson County Hospitality Association, was held on Wednesday of Festival week in the Chapel at Spalding Hall. This year’s challenge featured a Manhattan cocktail and area restaurants and bars competed in an open division of the competition while Kentucky Bourbon distilleries concocted their rendition of the specialty drink in a second division.
Summit Restaurant/Midwest Culinary School’s “Perfect Summit Manhattan” was the winning drink in the Open division competition and the "Strawberry Fields” presented by Maker’s Mark Distillery, took home first place in the distillery division.
The Grand Champion drink, and the Official Drink of the 2012 Kentucky Bourbon Festival, was "Strawberry Fields” Maker’s Mark Distillery”
