Twenty-five years ago, bourbon wasn’t considered the popular spirit it is today. It wasn’t a mainstay on bar shelves nationwide or a product contemplated and critiqued by media near and far. It wasn’t much more than an off-putting liquor your parents kept stocked in their homes. But in a central Kentucky town of less than 10,000, the spirit remained a way of life, established by residents’ ancestors more than 200 years before and clung to despite the country’s rejection.
